When we found out we were moving to America we looked into the logistics of bringing our beloved Lab, Teddy, with us. We could have brought him to the States easily enough (except for the fact we felt sorry for him being couped up for the airplane ride) - it was getting him back into Australia in the future that would be the hard part. We also want to travel, and we didn't think it would be fair to move him to LA and then put him in a boarding facility so we could travel.
So, we started the search for a good home for him. The first place who agreed to take him fell through the day after I returned from the US due to unforeseen circumstances. Then we found another home - 1 acre in the bush, fenced in, another dog, etc, etc - it seemed perfect. We travelled the hour to the hills as a family, had afternoon tea with the new people, Teddy love the other dog and all was lovely. We said tearful goodbyes and then I proceeded to bawl for half the ride home.
Two days later I started getting random phone calls from strangers that they had my dog! He had figured out how to escape the yard. So I drove back out and picked him up.
from the table. We let them both get away with
it as it was their last supper together (or so we thought)
We managed to find another family a few days later, they came to meet him and it was a match made in heaven. They took him on the day and we've had a few emails saying that they are doing wonderfully. In fact, I'm going down to their house next weekend to help the husband learn how to use the special leash we had for him.
Whilst we of course miss him, and Sydney still asks for him a lot, it's amazing how clean the house has stayed! It's also been raining a lot, so not having to go out and pick up poo in the pouring rain is great.
I LOVE MY DOG! The night before we took him to the first home in the hills we had an extra long play with him and gave him the most insane amount of treats ever.
