Dyeing Easter Eggs

We got to dye Easter Eggs with Sydney this year and she LOVED it. We used dye drops that my Mom sent to me years ago. As I went to hard boil the eggs I realised that eggs down here are a light brown colour, so I started to wonder how they would turn out. I don't think it really mattered what colour the eggs started out as since Sydney just transferred each egg from colour to colour to colour and they all came out a bit, well, brown.

Here's she's with Daddy just starting to get the hang of what's going on.

Can you believe it - Mom actually got to get in a picture? As you can see by the smile on her face we're having a good time. I think part of what was so great was that Daddy had been travelling the week before, had only gotten home on the Wednesday morning, and he came home EARLY (3pm) on Friday so we could do this wonderful family activity. The weather was finally cooled off so it was just perfect to be out in the shaded backyard having fun together.

She's really gotten into it now. As you can see by her hands, sticking them straight into the dye was the way to go. She then discovered that little wire hook thing they give you in the pack and tried to use it to transfer the eggs.

We didn't get any actual photos of our Easter Egg hunt, we took video instead. After they dried (it didn't take long) I hid the 10 eggs in the backyard and then Sydney and Daddy hunted for them. She carried this massive basket, wouldn't let Daddy help carry it, and wandered around the yard looking for eggs. Every time she located one she'd say "Oh no", then run over and grab it and then literally THROW it into the basket. We just cracked up, as did the eggs. We couldn't even teach her how to play "Who Got Egg" because they were already all cracked up!

We had to play the Easter Egg Hunt a few times. She started to repeat over and over that "I'm doing an Egg Hunt, just like Dora" as we have the Easter Dora the Explorer. I think she was a bit disappointed that the eggs couldn't be opened and there weren't surprises in them. She would have to wait until Easter morning for that!
