Back To School - Pre-Primary!

After nine LONG months at home with Mommy, Sydney started school on Feb 2. She was soooooooo excited! The night before school started, I back "Back-to-School" brownies and we lit candles and sang a made-up-on-the-spot song about going back to school. They blew out the candle and then I denied them the chance to dive in and eat as much as they wanted because I didn't want a sugar high before bed; yeah, what a drag Mommy.

The smile on Sydney's face here really says it all - this kid was made for school. We had to try her uniform on every day for the week leading up to starting and she had to practice wearing her new "school shoes" to break them in!

Here's my big girl all dressed up in her uniform for her first day of Pre-Primary (equivalent of Kindergarten in the States). I swear she looked five years older and a foot taller all dressed for school.

Proud Mommy finally got to pose for a picture - yeah, she looks really upset to be leaving me all day. Its full-time school, so 8:30-3:00 every day of the week. I thought she'd have a slightly difficult time adjusting since she'd been home for nine months, but she didn't. Oh who am I kidding, I was the one who had a hard time adjusting. The first day I don't think I got a thing done around the house because I kept looking at the clock wondering if it was time to pick her up yet and if she was having fun.

We have the option of going into the classroom in the morning and spending the first 15 minutes of the day with them, or just dropping them off at the "Drive Thru". They have a pretty set morning routine of things they need to do - one of which is signing in to class. For Term 1 they had their names printed so they could trace them in the correct letter formation. This is Sydney signing in on the first day. From Term 2 there's just a spot with their name printed in the corner and they have to sign it free-hand.
