How About "Zed?"

Given we are a bi-country family we have always engaged in intense "cultural exchange" and knew that when we had kids there would be some friendly rivalry invoked on Rich's and my behalf to "Americanize" or "Australianize" the kids. As we obviously brought some of our Australian-bought toys with us to California, some of the kids' toys have a quasi-British accent when played.

One said toy, the toolbench given to John by our dear friends Charms, Brett and Matty, has a function that sings the ABC song when pushed. And, being of British/Australian voice-over, it ends the song with "Zed", instead of the American "Zee".

So the other day, Sydney is skipping around the house singing her ABCs and out of her sweet little mouth pops "Zed". Hmmmm...... I figure it's not only my right, but my duty, after enduring 7 1/2 years of "it's To-Mah-Toe, not To-May-Toe, it's Nih-san, not Nee-san, it's Herb, not Erb", etc, etc, that I straighten out her pronunciation. So I tell her, "honey, it's Zee". Which then invokes and even more fun game:

Sydney: Zed
Mommy: Zee
Sydney: Zed
Mommy: Zee
Sydney: Zed

You get the picture...

So this has now become a game, and she will run up to me at any random point in the day and yell "Zed". We were at Trader Joe's yesterday and she started in on me. So off goes our game, and it was actually interuppted by a laughing Brit who said to us, "yeah, Zed, I haven't heard that in awhile". The game usually ends when Sydney stops saying "Zed" and instead says "How about Zed?"

So, there you have it. How about Zed?

I'll change her yet.... :)
