One of Sydney's favourite activities in the sand is digging. She now interchanges the English, Spanish and Chinese words for dig: dig, excava, wah (thank you Dora & Kai-lan). On July 5th whilst we were at the beach house, I met Sydney, Gramps and Rich on their way back to the house after a long walk; I took over entertaining Sydney duty and we dug for a loooooooong time. At one point we were digging in a sand crab area - you could dig just an inch down and uncover hundreds of small sand crabs. She was happily digging in that area, I kept pointing out the sand crabs, and then it's like it suddenly clicked in her mind that they were crabs and she freaked out and started running down the beach.
Then we came across this spot and started digging again. She was saying over and over that "I'm digging to Australia". But of course once I turned the video on she stopped saying that. When I was little and we were digging holes we used to be told that if we dug deep enough we'd reach China. About seven yeras ago a friend told me that New York City and Perth are lined up through the centre of the Earth - so if you dig from NYC you'd actually reach Perth, not China. Wonder where Sydney would pop out if she dug deep enough from California?
