Wisconsin in July

Rich had to take a repatriation trip back to Australia mid-July, so the kids and I flew up to Wisconsin to visit Grammie for the week. It was a great trip. We got to spend a lot of relaxing time with my mom, both sisters and baby Brynna. In fact, there were a couple of days where we had some sorta-plans and then we were all so relaxed and happy to just chill out, that we didn't leave the house.

I think the kids and I most enjoyed the break in humidity. There were a few warmer days, but even they didn't seem that "bad" compared to the weather in Houston. Sydney spent hours and hours on Mom's back porch (you can see that in the background) picking all the flowers out of the pots, lying on the swing bench reading, playing in the little pools Grammie bought and just basking in the sun.

It was the first time that Grammie had all her grandkids together, and they loved climbing into her bed in the morning for book time, as well as hanging out on the chaise lounge. We celebrated the dedication of Brynna at Covenant Church whilst we were there.

Here's John teaching Brynna how to use the Leap Frog piano that we passed on to her. It was one of the kids favorite toys when they were younger, so they were really excited to give it to her and show her how to use it. Not that little babies need to be shown how to bang on something, but John felt it was important to show her the ropes.

We also went fishing in Grammie's pond. Once again this activity proved to be much more exciting and enthralling for the adults than the kids. In fact, I think this photo is pretty staged; I can't remember exactly whether or not John reeled it in himself - I think there was a time or two that he tried it out, but neither he nor Sydney wanted anything to do with the live fish.

The largest catch of the week, however, was Bailey the dog. Mom's line was in the water, I cast mine out, the lines crossed and Bailey took off after my bobber. The line broke, and when I reeled in the line and we got Bailey out of the water, I made the side comment of "hope the hook didn't get her" - turns out it did! So Mom took her to the vet straight away and she got the hook out of the dog and all was well again.

We didn't go fishing anymore after that.

Just another photo of John holding his cousin. No doubt the next time they are together she'll probably be holding him!
