I forgot how much I LOVE the US Autumn/Fall until it started this year! Unfortunately we don't get the cooler weather here on the West Coast, or the extensive changing colour of leaves, but I'll take what I can get.
We attended the local Pumpkin Festival and Scarecrow Contest on Sunday - it was great. Sydney thought the sheer abundance of pumpkins was "awesome". If we could have afforded to take them all home I think she would have really liked that. At last count we have five pumpkins in the playroom, and we haven't even bought the big ones to carve yet.
John obviously had no clue what all the big orange things were all about, he just liked to people watch and bounce to the music that was playing. We would have let him crawl around a bit, but he's been enjoying eating dirt lately, and we didn't want him chowing down on the dirt at the patch.
Part of the festival is a scarecrow contest. Anyone in the public can enter a scarecrow and then the rest of the town votes on their favourite. There were about 10 scarecrows erected on Sunday, including a University of Southern California (USC) scarecrow, a book-reading scarecrow and a surfer scarecrow. How cute is our little boy?
This was the first time that Sydney was ever interested in getting her face painted. She waited so patiently on the bench (below) with all the other kids. She was determined to get a pumpkin painted on her face "Not a cat, not a ghost, a pumpkin Mommy". She sat very, very still whilst her face was painted, and was so proud of her body art. Her biggest complaint was that she couldn't see it and had to wait until we got home to admire her face.
PURE JOY.

What fun! I LOVE this time of year as well! I need to get some pics up of what we've been up to, but time is hard to come by! Your fam is adorable though! Love it!
