Moving in and Unpacking

Wow - moving overseas is HARD WORK! And to think that we actually had people doing it for us as well; I certainly wouldn't want to organise and execute this myself! We moved into our rental home in the Pacific Palisades on July 1. John and I went to the house at 9am to await the movers (who showed up 45 minutes late at 10:45) and Sydney and Rich followed us to bring a load of stuff from the apartment and then they went back to the apartment to get more stuff. My Nana and Gramps came down from Thousand Oaks to help mind Sydney and do some moving

I tried to do a little bit of unpacking and putting away whilst the movers were here - as they would remove any paper and boxes that were emptied before they left. Above is the paper from ONE box - you can see why I wanted them to take away as much as possible. After they unloaded everything from the crates they then helped unpack boxes. For insurance reasons they were not allowed to put anything in a cupboard or on a shelf - they could only unwrap and place them on the nearest empty surface. So at one point one of the guys was unwrapping dishes, handing them to me, and I'd put them in the cupboard.

It all got a bit overwhelming and I was getting tired, so I started to just tell them "Baby's Room" for any box marked "Spare, Linen or Guest". So all these boxes were put in John's room. I am slowly getting to them - more like digging through them to find things we need as we need them, like towels, sheets, etc. Here the kids are playing in the piles of paper and stuff. Why oh why do we have about 12 pillows? That's aside from the ones we've got on our bed and Sydney's bed. Strange.

Aside from all the stuff we sold or gave to friends before we left, I took 8 boot loads of stuff to Good Sammy's - yes, 8 full Ford Territory boot loads. I've already filled two bags on this side to donate to a thrift shop; if only I could find one! We have too much stuff!!!!!

Packing, moving and unpacking....something I'm NOT looking forward to!! Take it one step at a time.
